Newsletter #9, Casa 2, May
Casa dei Bambini Newsletter, May, #9
Teachers: Ekaterina Rodionova and Susanne Ostrovsky
Dear parents, good afternoon!

We hope that everyone is well rested, and we are looking forward to children returning to class! We have prepared new material for them, focusing on the interests, which they discussed before the holidays.
We would like to remind you about some useful items for the children to have in class.
Winter is over, good weather is setting on the street. So now the children really need:
Individual bottles of water for a walk (with the child's name)
Hats/panamas/caps - they protect the head from ultraviolet, sand and small insects that can get on the head
Clothing and footwear (with the child's name)
Snack (apple / cookies, etc.)
Small backpack
After the holidays, please check the spare clothing that is stored in the classroom.
May Themes
In May we will continue to study geography and proceed to the continents of North and South America. We will talk about animals and plants, about locations and weather conditions, traditions of people who inhabit these continents.
Further, we will talk about dinosaurs. This theme is always a great interest for children, and we return to it periodically. We will study encyclopedias and compare extinct animals. We will learn how the predators were called and about herbivorous lizards. We are going to draw them, talk a lot about them and also write a little.

We have prepared material about insects, bushes, and predatory plants and also about butterflies.

We will continue to plant and observe and care for the plants.

For sure we won't get bored!

Book Club May, 24th 3:40 - 5:00 pm
On Thursday, May 24th, at 15.40 the next meeting of our Book Club will take place. We would like to remind the rules of participation: each interested family chooses three interesting books at home with the child. One short story you will read at our meeting, and two other books will be exchanged with another family for a month. It becomes a kind of library - an exchange of books. It would be great if the books were both in Russian and English. And, of course, we will drink tea and discuss current issues. Please bring the books that you have received the last time and exchange them back.
Potluck Picnic May, 26th 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Our picnic is planned for May, 26th. Please mark your calendar. If the weather is cold we will use heating systems and hold the picnic anyway. We will be holding our international costume concert separately this year. The concert will take place on June, 16th. We would like children to represent their cultural background by wearing a cultural costume of their choice. Parents are also invited to join their children on this very fun day! More information is coming in June Newsletter.
Observations and meetings
In May parents' observations and parents-teacher meetings will start. Observations will be conducted only for parents who joined the class in September. Children, who moved to the class in 2018, are still in the process of adaptation and emotionally not ready for it. At the entrance of our class, there is a sheet where you can sign up for an observation appointment and a meeting with the teachers. We recommend that you first come for the observation, then for the meeting.
